The Band for the modern day?

I've been admittedly slow to pickup on these guys but listening to Dr. Dog makes me think that we have found The Band of the modern day.  Well those might be strong words, but I do think they've got something going on here.  Plus Pitchfork hates them, which generally means I'll love them.

I've been spinning Fate consistently for the past few days and cannot get over it.  I know you will read that they sound like The Beatles or The Beach Boys  but I keep hearing The Band.  Which makes me happy because I have loved The Band so much in my life that it sometimes makes me want to weep.  Listen to Hang On and tell me you don't hear Richard Manuel.
